Introduction paragraph:
When I was looking at the list of non profit organizations I felt PAD stood out to me most. I felt the idea of an organization that was the main reason for allowing people in need to be able to obtain a service dog was very heartwarming. I also am just a very big dog lover as I’ve owned dogs myself in my lifetime and know many people who need assistance dogs while also being the one to train them as well. I know of many people especially at Millersville who have either trained service dogs or have had the chance to be assisted by one. PAD is a non-profit organization that sets out to properly train service dogs to make sure they are prepared to successfully aid their specific owners who are in need. While there are many service dog non-profit organizations out there, PAD offers the best services and turnout that you can find.
Inspiration:
The idea for this project is to use our resources to create several different mediums of design to display for the audience to be brought in. We feel as a group that there needs to be more emphasis on the advertising side in order to help with the gain in volunteers. There are many advantages to amping up the advertisement side but we feel the most important aspect is having a strong brand with periodic posts and posters that obtain more volunteers and people in need.
Ideation:
1. How do I make sense of what I've learned: To make sense of what I have learned, it’s important to take everything in like the interviews and see where we can establish some foundation then get into solving these problems.
2. How do I turn my learning into an opportunity for design: Taking everything learned we are able to fill those missing pieces later on with design aspects if that is what’s needed.
3. How will I make a prototype or actual pieces: The prototype or actual pieces are most likely going to be done digitally, then either stay that way or will be printed depending on what we think is the most impactful for the circumstance.
4. How do I know this idea will work: We know this will work because we figured out the problem within PAD and then used our design skills to solve the problems.
Insight Statement:
Our design challenge is to allow PAD to be able to successfully reach as many people as possible, to stay informative and to help those in search of service dogs.
Theme: Accessibility
Insights:
Many individuals with disabilities struggle to access affordable service dog programs due to long waitlists and high costs.
The training programs help service dogs to be more effective. They need to be close to their trainer and handler
People in rural or remote areas face greater challenges in finding service dog programs near them.
Theme: Training
Insights:
Service dogs are more impactful when trained for a specific need.
Involving future handlers in the training process fosters trust and improves the bond between the individual and the service dog.
Dogs statistically going through ongoing training are more reliable to their owners needs.
Theme: Awareness
Insights:
Many people are unaware of the life-changing impact service dogs can have on individuals with disabilities.
Increasing public awareness about service dog programs can encourage more volunteer trainers and financial support.
Allowing these ideas to be taught and thrown to the public will then increase more people to understand fully what they might not find true to start.
